Tulum Wedding Week 2026: Four Lessons for the Destination Wedding Industry
What Tulum Wedding Week 2026 taught us about multicultural weddings, business structure, AI and building a destination together, from Sofía García, destination wedding planner and founder of Blue Venado Weddings.

From February 11 to 13, 2026, Tulum Wedding Week brought together three complementary experiences: Tulum Before "I Do", the Destination Wedding Business Summit and the Destination Wedding Expo. The Business Summit took place on February 11 and 12 at Blue Venado Tulum and Casa Malca, and the Expo was held on February 13 at Zamna Tulum.
The program covered Jewish and South Asian weddings, sales, marketing, artificial intelligence, strategic partnerships, sustainability, and financial and legal structure. My own talk was "Marketing to Millennials & Gen Z with AI".
As a destination wedding planner, organizer and business coach, these are the four lessons I took home.
1. Cultural specialization requires preparation
Multicultural weddings are one of the strongest opportunities for destinations like Tulum and the Riviera Maya, and one of the most demanding. Doing them well means understanding traditions, timing, food and family expectations, and translating all of it into an operation that is respectful and well coordinated. Good intentions are not enough; preparation is what protects the couple and their families.
2. Creativity needs business structure
A beautiful visual proposal wins attention. It has to be supported by processes, contracts, financial control and a prepared team. The businesses that grow are the ones where design and operations speak the same language, and where what is promised in a proposal can be delivered on the day, at the margin the business needs.
3. Technology should strengthen human care
AI can support marketing, organization and sales follow-up. Its real value appears when it frees time for what couples remember: attention, judgment and closeness. Professional criteria and the relationship with each couple stay in human hands.
4. A destination's position is built together
No planner, venue or hotel builds a destination alone. Collaboration between planners, venues, hotels and suppliers improves the experience of every visitor and strengthens the competitiveness of Tulum and the Riviera Maya. Tulum Wedding Week exists to make that collaboration happen in person.
What comes next
Tulum Wedding Week returns February 11 to 13, 2027. If you are a wedding or hospitality professional and want to apply these ideas to your own business, that is exactly the work I do in mentoring and team training.
